The LiveSmart PlaySmart Community

By Kids. For Kids.

My name is Brian and I was diagnosed with Von Willebrand Disease when I was 8 years old. I am now 16 and see the need for an online community for kids like myself to share their experiences: a go-to place where we can feel comfortable, safe and be authentic.

Our community is simply a place where kids can be kids, a place where we can openly talk about what it is like to live with a blood disorder, learn how to overcome challenges from each other, and reach for anything we want.

While play smart has a sports angle, our stories do not have to be limited to athletics. The world is our playground, and playing is about living your life to the fullest even with a blood disorder. Let’s be brave together and share our stories!

Brian’s Story

“Throughout the early years of my life, I would bleed unexpectedly and routinely. I didn’t think much of it, but I began to worry about nosebleeds that would wake me up in the middle of the night, last ten to fifteen minutes, and form extremely long clots, or as I call them, ‘strings of blood.’”
